The Wyeths: America Reflected
Heritage Museums & Gardens, Cape Cod's premier cultural and educational institution, is pleased to announce Summer 2015's must-see art exhibition, The Wyeths: America Reflected. The exhibit, which will run from June 6 - September 27, 2015, showcases the art of three generations of the acclaimed family of painters -- Andrew Wyeth; his father, N.C.; and his son, Jamie. In particular, this exhibit will focus on quintessential American themes; the meaning of America; the significance of place and family; and the role of storytelling in art. The exhibit of over 45 paintings and drawings includes rarely seen works on loan from private collectors. N.C. Wyeth's 16 oil paintings from Poems of American Patriotism - depicting Revolutionary heroes, and true American leaders, including George Washington, Paul Revere, and Abraham Lincoln - serve as the artistic introduction to America's foundations. From there, landscapes by Andrew Wyeth will speak to the importance of place, both on land and at sea, in the formation of American identity. Lastly, evocative and provocative images by Jamie Wyeth will examine seminal figures of our times and the allure of mystery and mortality in American culture. The exhibition will be as much about the trio of artists themselves as their respective works of art. The Wyeths: America Reflected will be accompanied by photographs of each artist; an introductory text that sets out the parameters of the exhibition; text panels for each artist with biographical and thematic information; and individual annotated labels. Secret Shelters Exhibit Open June 6-October 15
Explore nine artistic "Secret Shelters" in this season's outdoor exhibit, made by artists and architects. The artist interpretations of the word 'secret shelter' are tucked around Heritage's trees, hills and hidden spaces! Secret Shelters features for contemplating nature, practicing the art of meditation, writing poetry, gazing at the heavens or other uses that you invent. Each installation allows you to enter the space and contemplate the gardens and grounds at Heritage from artistically composed vantage points. Boston architect Yugon Kim's Outside-In plays with the concept of what is inside and what is out in a shelter that wraps the space around Heritage's Tulip Tree. Wing's Spire by Nancy Winship Milliken uses handmade irregular netting of mono-filament to create an airy interior with the sound of wind as an experiential element. Designer Joel Reider utilizes a sod exterior in Eaves/Grass, while Tessa D'Agostino creates a space for writing poetry while listening to Heritage's rushing Flume Fountain in her installation called Temple of Theosophical Truths. Local architects Mary-Ann Agresti and Sue Beardsley are among the artists showing their inspired shelters along with Erica Quigley, Leslie Alexander Endes and Wyatt Armstrong. Heritage is grateful to our exhibit sponsor Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Exhibit is free with museum admission

The Hundred Acre School Summer STEM Adventures
The Hundred Acre School opens its doors to children ages 4 to 7 in July and August for an eight week program designed to allow families the ability to sign up in one week sessions or for the entire eight week program. Join us in this new, bright, modern facility for a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)-focused summer program that allows children to question like scientists, use technology as a tool, be creative engineers, and think like mathematicians. We'll engage in daily STEM exploration adventures throughout Heritage Museums & Gardens, using a variety of locations and hands-on materials to explore, discover and play. Plus we'll conduct experiments and collect and share data about our predictions and what we discover. Activities each week will be appropriate for participants who attend one week or all weeks in a theme. Adventures in Horticulture Weeks of July 6-10, 13-17, 20-24 Activities will focus on plants, gardening, and investigating what makes plants similar and different. Children will create their own garden at The Hundred Acre School and determine what they want to grow and how they will need to care for their plants. We will also learn about farming, and how we gather, ship, and grow food around the world. Becoming Pattern Makers Weeks of July 27-31; August 3-7, 10-14 Participants will discover patterns in their environment and have opportunities to learn to create their own. Using human-made and natural materials to explore patterns, shapes, and mathematical concepts, participants will develop number sense and be able to use patterns to understand mathematical algorithms. Discovering ways to count by (multiplication), count time, count order, count objects, and count on (addition), we'll learn about symmetry and balance and the beauty of patterns found in nature. Conducting Science Experiments Weeks of August 17-21, 24-28 Activities will focus on exploring chemistry concepts. Children will use the scientific method to develop hypotheses and then test them through experiments. Together we will explore how materials transform, such as liquids becoming solids or gasses. We will also learn about chemical reactions and catalysts, discovering the "magic" of science and why the reactions occurred. Children will also learn about scientists and other STEM occupations. Fees Weekly Rates Full Day, 9am-3:30pm - $300 Half Day, 9am-1pm - $200 Early care, 8am-9am - $50 After care, 3:30pm-5:30pm - $100 Late registration fee after June 15: $25 Enroll for all 8 weeks and receive a $200 discount!
