Heritage Museums & Gardens, one of the premier gardens in the Northeast, will host Hydrangeas 2015 in the summer of 2015, featuring leading horticulturists and experts in the cultivation of this iconic flowering plant. Renowned tree and shrub expert, author, and hydrangea hybridizer Dr. Michael Dirr will deliver the keynote lecture. The conference will promote the exchange of cutting- edge information on hydrangeas and cover a diverse array of critical topics. Hydrangea lectures will be held each morning, with garden tours to follow in the afternoons. Heritage Museums & Gardens is widely known for its rhododendrons. 2015 Season Opening at Heritage Museums & Gardens
Heritage Museums & Gardens will open for the 2015 season on Saturday, April 18, with a flourish of updated classic features and engaging new offerings, including the Aerial Adventure at Heritage; “The Wyeths: America Reflected,” an exhibit of works by NC, Jamie, and Andrew Wyeth, and Secret Shelters, an installation of artist-designed hideaways placed throughout the gardens. The 100-acre cultural landmark will also host ”Hydrangeas 2015,” a major Hydrangea conference that will attract leading horticulturalists to Cape Cod. With its mission to celebrate American culture and inspire people of all ages to explore, discover and learn together, Heritage has changed its display of beautiful antique cars and added a collector’s corner to its “Driven to Collect” automobile exhibit while also bringing back the Museum’s popular Behind the Scenes Auto Tours. It will also re-open its newly reinterpreted exhibit of American art and artifacts, “The Heritage Collection.” Both exhibits will be available all season. Season Details: • The season will be in full swing – literally – with the May 9 debut of the new Aerial Adventure at Heritage, an innovative and interactive way to merge learning and play. Nestled on four wooded acres, the Aerial Adventure comprises interpretive trails on the ground that guide visitors through a Cape Cod forest and the beautiful Dexter rhododendrons. Above, on five aerial trails, visitors will get a bird’s-eye view of the tree canopy and gardens below while navigating tunnels, moving planks, zip lines, and rope walks. • Visitors can reconnect with the outside world through Secret Shelters, art installations tucked around Heritage’s trees, hills and hidden spaces. From June 6th to October 15th, Secret Shelters will feature designs by artists and architects meant for contemplating nature, meditating, writing poetry, and gazing at the heavens. • The Special Exhibitions Gallery, a replica of a Revolutionary War fort, will house the highly sought-after collection, The Wyeths: America Reflected from June 6th to September 27th. The exhibit will highlight quintessential American themes as expressed in the works of three generations of the artistic Wyeth family – N.C. Wyeth, son Andrew, and grandson Jamie. It includes rarely seen works on loan from private collectors. • Heritage will host the Hydrangeas 2015 conference this summer, welcoming top horticulturalists and gardeners to revel in the cultivation of the gorgeous flower during its peak bloom time. The three day conference – to be held July 14th, 15th and 16th – will cover everything from the history of hydrangeas and how the ancient Asian flower made its way to the United States, to gardening and cultivating tips and the best ways to sell them. Lectures will be held each morning, followed by garden tours in the afternoon. The conference’s keynote speaker is noted University of Georgia professor Dr. Michael A. Dirr. A legend in the field of horticulture, Dirr has published more than 300 scientific and popular articles on horticulture and authored the best-selling book Dirr’s Hardy Trees and Shrubs. More information about these exhibits and exciting new offerings is available online at www.heritagemuseumsandgardens.org, or by calling 508-888-3300.

The Wyeths: America Reflected
Heritage Museums & Gardens, Cape Cod's premier cultural and educational institution, is pleased to announce Summer 2015's must-see art exhibition, The Wyeths: America Reflected. The exhibit, which will run from June 6 - September 27, 2015, showcases the art of three generations of the acclaimed family of painters -- Andrew Wyeth; his father, N.C.; and his son, Jamie. In particular, this exhibit will focus on quintessential American themes; the meaning of America; the significance of place and family; and the role of storytelling in art. The exhibit of over 45 paintings and drawings includes rarely seen works on loan from private collectors. N.C. Wyeth's 16 oil paintings from Poems of American Patriotism - depicting Revolutionary heroes, and true American leaders, including George Washington, Paul Revere, and Abraham Lincoln - serve as the artistic introduction to America's foundations. From there, landscapes by Andrew Wyeth will speak to the importance of place, both on land and at sea, in the formation of American identity. Lastly, evocative and provocative images by Jamie Wyeth will examine seminal figures of our times and the allure of mystery and mortality in American culture. The exhibition will be as much about the trio of artists themselves as their respective works of art. The Wyeths: America Reflected will be accompanied by photographs of each artist; an introductory text that sets out the parameters of the exhibition; text panels for each artist with biographical and thematic information; and individual annotated labels.
