Hyannis Hyball Invitational
The Hyannis Hyball Invitational is, at its core, a three team softball tournament. While two teams face on on the field, the third team plays drinking games together. It’s become a hodgepodge of friends over the years, so I mix up the teams which means there’s a good chance you won’t know every person on your team. But what better way to make new friends than in a fierce game of flip cup, or holding a stranger’s legs for a textbook keg stand? If you suck at softball, or just don’t want to play, that’s perfectly fine. The event has become so much more over the years, so softball is just a few hours of messing around so we can still call this a tournament, and not just a debaucherous camping weekend for adults who refuse to grow up. But it seems like the less softball we play, the crazier it gets, and the more money we raise. I couldn’t be more proud. Camp Lyndon (for whatever reason) will be welcoming us back in 2016. We will once again be staying in their cabins both Friday and Saturday night. There’s a gorgeous lake, fire-pit, archery, paddle boards, kayaks, full bathrooms, and a park area where we can grill, and play yard games all weekend long. This place is entirely comprised of heated cabins so there’s no need to rough it. That is unless you choose to bring a tent and take up one of the many camp sites. Completely up to you. There are however only 60 beds in the cabins. First come first serve. Your $150 donation gets you: Two nights on the lake at Camp Lyndon American Apparel T-Shirt with brand new 2016 Custom Logo Hyball Sun Glasses Stickers A Slap Bracelet Koozie Lunch on Saturday from the Wianno Green Cafe Dinner Saturday night from Porky’s BBQ Tons of keg beer Enough Fireball to kill a horse Vita Coco Coconut Water Kill Cliff Recovery Drink Fuel for Fire packs The first $4,000 will go to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as part of my campaign for Man of the Year. We will still be contributing to Team Collier Strong and The MIT Police Sean Collier Scholarship Fund?. The remainder will be donated to YMCA’s Camp Lyndon and their Campership Program which sends at-risk kids to camp. 100% of those proceeds will be matched by General Electric. Venmo is the preferred way to transfer money. Cash/check/BofA bank transfers are also a nice way to avoid fees. There is a PayPal button in the upper right corner which will allow you to use a credit card, but does come with a $10 fee because PayPal sucks. Once you’ve paid, please update the Google spreadsheet, with your shirt size and email address so that I have your information. Hope to see you all this summer!!! Seany OC

Thursday, September 29, 7:00 p.m.

Lecture: Rocky Neck Cultural Center, 6 Wonson Street, Gloucester, Mass.

Tour:
Beauport, the Sleeper-McCann House, 75 Eastern Point Blvd, Gloucester, Mass.

The term "bachelor house" suggested a distinctive type of home--and homeowner--to early twentieth-century audiences, who understood the phrase as a coded reference to homosexuality. Join Tripp Evans, professor of art history at Wheaton College, for a lecture that explores Beauport as Henry Sleeper’s bachelor house.

Placing Sleeper alongside contemporary bachelor-decorators A. Piatt Andrew, Charles Gibson, and Ogden Codman Jr., this illustrated talk considers the roles that memory, collecting, and theater played at Beauport and other bachelor houses of the period.

The lecture takes place at Rocky Neck Cultural Center at 7:00 p.m., following an optional tour of Beauport at 5:30 p.m. Light refreshments provided.
